Nicholas Hiber, 75, of Rice Lake died Nov. 20 at Lakeview Medical Center. Funeral services were held Nov. 23 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rice Lake with Rev. Allan Bradley officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by the Rice lake American Legion.

Mr. Hilber was born Sept. 19, 1917 to Elizabeth and John Hiber in Arland, where he was raised and educated. He worked as a farmhand on the Hiber Brothers dairy farm in Barron until his induction into the U.S. Army in 1942. He served with the 16th Evacuation Hospital in Europe and was discharged in 1945. He then went to work in the Dakotas and came back to the Rice Lake area to farm with his brother, Edward from 1950-55 in Bear Lake Township. Mr. Hiber married Pauline Wille Weber on Oct. 22, 1955 and they farmed in Oak Grove Township until his retirement in 1983.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge 402 of Rice Lake, and the Rice Lake Farmers Union.

Mr. Hilber is survived by his wife, Pauline; two daughters, Janet Viellieux and Patricia Etlicher, both of Rice Lake; three stepsons, Jack and Bill Weber, both of Rice Lake, and Steve Weber of Cameron; two brothers, John of Barron, and Edward of Waterloo, Iowa; four grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 10 great-stepgrandchildren.
