Born in Prussia, Germany, she arrived in New York City on the S.S. NECKAR in 1874 with her parents, sister, and brother. About three years later she married Ernest August Klein. They had 8 children but two (William E. and Irving W.) had died by the time of the 1900 census. (All of her children are listed below except for Herman, who died sometime after his sister Edith in 1967 and whose burial place is unknown.) Henrietta died of "organic heart disease."

Mrs. Henrietta Matilda Klein, 69, widow of Ernest August Klein, died yesterday morning at the home of her daughter [Edith], Mrs. John Metzger, 242 Cleveland Avenue. She formerly resided at 1300 Butternut Street. Mrs. Klein came to this country from Germany at 16, and had resided in this city 53 years. She had been a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church since that time. Surviving are three sons, Herman, Harvey and Arthur Klein; two daughters, Mrs. John Metzger and Mrs. Clara Rivers of Ilion, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Metzger home by the Rev. Hermann G. Dattan. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

The family lived in the area of Prussia that is now part of Poland and not Germany. The parents were married and Henrietta along with all of her siblings were baptized in Bromberg Stadt, Posen, Preußen aka Bromberg, Posen, Prussia, now Bydgoszcz, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Poland.

When they arrived in New York, their previous residence was listed as Zawada, Preußen now: Zawada, Bydgoszcz, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Poland.
