Violet Emily (Lorfeld) Seifert, age 74, of rural Newton, died Saturday evening, October 8, 2011 touched by angels, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center.

She was born January 30, 1937 in the town of Meeme, daughter of the late Arthur & Hertha (Wippermann) Lorfeld. On January 2, 1960, Violet was united in marriage to Melvin "Mickey" Seifert. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1998. She was baptized April 4, 1937 and was a lifetime member of St. James United Church of Christ in Spring Valley.

She attended the rural Spring Valley grade school and graduated from Kiel High School in 1955. Her post secondary education included Manitowoc County Teachers College graduating in 1957 and then earning her Bachelor degree in education from Lakeland College in 1970 with a Masters equivalent in 1983. She taught at Woodland Park from 1957-1960, Meeme Elementary School from 1965-1968, and Cooper Elementary School from 1973-1998. She served as Treasurer of the Cooper PTA for over 10 years, Vice President of the Meeme PTA and Treasurer and President of the St. James United Church of Christ consistory for over 10 years. During those years she also taught Sunday school. She served as Treasurer and President of the Rural Church Fellowship for over 20 years and was involved with the Stewardship and Long Range Planning Committees, as well as President and member of the Ladies Aid.

Her love of teaching encompassed many hours reading favorite children's books to her daughters and grandchildren. Our mother spent endless days tending to her garden, harvesting and offering guidance on how to preserve the produce. During her five month journey, the teaching continued and the lessons included: steadfastness, unlimited patience, perseverance, strength, thoroughness and trust in faith.

Violet was the proud mother of three daughters: Sue (Ken) Sell, Kiel, Janice (Fred) Reindl, St. Nazianz, and Nancy (Thomas) Nye, New Jersey. Her three grandchildren warmed her heart: Michael and Matthew Reindl and Addison Nye. She is further survived by her three sisters: her twin sister, Virginia (Milton) Braun, Sheboygan Falls, Mary Ellen Schnelle, Cleveland, and Ellen Mae (William) Surfus, Manitowoc, one sister-in-law, Helen Rotsted, Sheboygan Falls, one brother-in-law, Willard Seifert, New Holstein, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Mary Lorfeld and brother-in-law Lloyd Schnelle. Also preceding her in death are Lester and Bonney Seifert, Raymond and Janet Seifert, Betty Seifert, Edgar Rotsted and Frederick and Roma Hemb. Two nephews and a niece preceding her in death, James Rotsted, Gerald Seifert and Barbara Mayer.

Funeral services for Violet will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, October 14, 2011 at St. James United Church of Christ, 13312 Pioneer Road, Newton (Spring Valley) with Rev. William Kesting officiating.

Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
