Mrs. Bertha Rhodes Roberts, 91, died at Mercy Hospital where she had been a patient since June 23.
Bertha was born on Nobember 16, 1874, at Clinton, Indiana, the daughter of Beachum and Sarepta Johnson Rhodes. She came with her family to Kansas at the age of five to live in Neosho Falls. For a time the family lived in Missouri before coming to Fort Scott in 1898.
She married Frank Blair Roberts on January 15, 1894. He preceded her in death on Febraury 5, 1938.
Bertha was a member of the First Methodist Church, the ladies auxillary to the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen (Western Star Lodge No. 199) of which she was secretary a number of years, and for many years she was secretary of the Eugene Ware PTA.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Bertha had a boarding house for railroad employees who were traveling through town. Their home was near the railroad tracks and her husband, Frank, was a railroad conductor. They had six children.
