He enlisted in the army when 16 years; of age and served as a private throughout the civil war in Company K, sixteenth regiment, and Company G twentieth regiment, Maine infantry.
In 1867, following the death of his father, he came to Princeton with his widow mother Mrs. John (nee Eunice Smith) Howard, and lived here until his death. In 1878 he was married to Miss Emma Latta. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Thomas Looney; one brother, Fred Howard;sister Clara Wood in Maine; three grandchildren, Mrs. N. P. Blanchett, Mrs. S. T. Thill, Miss Evelyn Looney, all of Minneapolis.
Anson owned and ran a livery stable from about 1900 on. He was a member of the GAR, where filled several offices over the years.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist church last Friday afternoon and the interment was in Oak Knoll cemetery. Rev. Nobbs officiated. Mr. and Mrs,, Thomas Looney, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Howard, Mrs. Blanchett, Mrs. Thill and Miss Evelyn Looney were among those in attendance at the obsequies.
Anson Howard, the greater part of whose life was spent working in the woods and as a farmer, was a man generally liked in the community and his many friends deeply regret that he has gone.
