— Preacher Jim Cordell, 69, of LaFayette, passed away after a short battle with cancer Monday, Oct. 17, 2011.

Preacher Jim was a faithful servant of the Lord for 40 years. He pastored at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Trion First Baptist Church, Ruhama Baptist Church and Walnut Grove Baptist Church. He was an alumni of Shorter College and also on the board of trustees for the Baptist Village and the Georgia Baptist Children Homes. Jim loved being with his family and grandchildren, dealing with antiques and working with ForEvergreen Landscaping in Rome.

He was preceded in death by parents, Shamblin Franklin and Lecile Mae Williams Cordell; and brother, Leonard Cordell.

He is survived by loving wife of 50 years, Wanda Dycus Cordell; daughters, Pam (Barry) Bridges of Summerville and Beth (Chip) Hood of Rome; son, Chris (Amber) Cordell of Cramerton, N.C.; sister, Shirley (Dan) Deakins of Whitwell, Tenn.; grandchildren, Christopher and Amy Cordell, Jenny, Brynna and Chantry Bridges, and Noah, Braden and Katelyn Hood; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at Trion First Baptist Church with Dr. Joel Snider and Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating.

Private interment will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 3 to 8 p.m.

Jim will lie at the church Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service time.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a church or charity of your choice.

Arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home of LaFayette.
