John Bidwell, Jr., s. John Bidwell, Sr. and Sarah Wilcox (q.v. Wilcocks), b. circa 1648 at Hartford, Conn. He d. intestate July 3, 1692 at Hartford, the inventory of his estate taken Aug. 23, 1692 by Stephen Hosmer & Joseph Mygatt. John was the owner of six saw and grist mills; three located at Hartford and one each in greater Hartford at Wethersfield, Glastonbury and Middletown.

On Nov. 7, 1678 at Hartford, John m. Sarah Welles, dau. of the Hon. Thomas Welles and Hannah Tuttle, b. in Apr. 1659 at Hartford, the granddau. of Gov. Thomas Welles, the immigrant patriarch of the Welles family of Connecticut. She d. at Hartford shortly before Mar. 7, 1708/09, her youngest child then only 17 years old.

John Bidwell, Jr. and Sarah Welles had eight children, all b. at Hartford and bapt. at either the Hartford 1st or 2nd Chh.:

• i. John Bidwell, 3rd, b. of record in September 1679 but bp. of record one month earlier on Aug. 8, 1679 (Hart. 2nd Chh.), d. Sept. 30, 1751 at Hartford; m. Hannah Pitkin, dau. of Roger Pitkin and Hannah Stanley, b. May 30, 1684 (bp. Nov. 22, 1685, 1st Chh.) at Hartford. She d. Jan. 14, 1750/1. Eight children of the family.

• ii. Hannah, b. Aug. 31, 1680, d. Apr. 8, 1707 at Farmington, Conn.; m. Apr. 11, 1706 (recorded at Farmington) Joseph Judd, by whom she had one child, son Joseph Judd, Jr., b. Apr. 1, 1707. She was included in the 1711 distribution of her parent's estate as "the heirs of Hannah Judd."

• iii. Sarah, b. Aug 19 (bp. Oct. 23, 2nd Chh.) 1681, d. intestate Dec. 3, 1744 at Wethersfield, Conn.; m. 1) Nov. 20, 1707 at Hartford, Capt. Joshua Robbins, Jr., s. Capt. Joshua Robbins, Esq. and Elizabeth Rose, b. Oct. 21, 1681 at Wethersfield. He d. testate May 30, 1733 at Wethersfield. Eight children of the family. Sarah m. 2) May 3, 1739 as his 2nd wife, her distant cousin Capt. Thomas Welles of Wethersfield, s. Capt. Robert Welles and Elizabeth Goodrich, b. in May 1676. He d. Dec. 3, 1741. There were no children of this 2nd marriage.

• iv. Thomas, b. Dec. 27 (bp. Dec. 31, 2nd Chh.) 1682, d. intestate bef. Jan. 15, 1716/7 (date of invent.); m. Mar. 28, 1710 at Hartford, Prudence Scott. Five children of the family.

• v. Jonathan, b. Mar. 5 (bp. Mar. 15, 2nd Chh.) 1684/5, d. testate at Hartford betw. Nov. 4 - Dec. 17, 1712 (will-invent.); m. Dec. 25, 1711 at Hartford, Martha Butler. Martha never remarried and d. at Hartford in 1735. One child of the family, dau. Martha, who d. unm. at Hartford May 20, 1790.

• vi. Abigail, bp. Apr. 4, 1686 (2nd Chh.); was not included in the Jan. 1710/1 distribution of her parent's estate.

• vii. David, bp. Feb 25, 1687/8 (2nd Chh.), d. June 25, 1758 at Hartford; m. July 8, 1714 at Hartford, Mehitable Webster, dau. of Dea. Jonathan Webster (Lieut. Robert,2 Gov. John,1) and Dorcas Hopkins, b. Mar. 8, 1690/1 at Hartford. Eight children of the family.

• viii. James, bp. Dec. 1691 (1st Chh.), d. intestate May 7, 1718 at Hartford; m. Dec. 3, 1713 at Hartford, Ruth Stanley, dau. of Capt. Caleb Stanley, Sr. and his 2nd wife Sarah Foster, b. July 1 (bp. July 5, 1st Chh.) 1696 at Hartford. One child of the family.
