Mary M. Longenecker, 86, of Brethren Village, Neffsville, Pa., and formerly of Bridgewater and Loreda, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Brethren Village following a brief illness.

Mrs. Longenecker was born in Chicago, Ill., and was the daughter of the late Rev. James M. and Ellen Kessler Moore.

She graduated from Elizabethtown College in 1938 and was a life member of the Church of the Brethren. For 54 years, she served with her husband, who preached at churches in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Florida and Virginia. At these churches, Mrs. Longenecker wrote and presented dramatic programs and served as organist, pianist and choir director.

She was a reference librarian at Bridgewater College from 1968 to 1972.

Her husband, the Rev. Samuel W. Longenecker, preceded her in death in 1993.

Surviving are three sons, James A. Longenecker of Fredericksburg, Robert S. Longenecker of Monroeville, Pa., and the Rev. David L. Longenecker of Brownstown, Pa.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Tuesday in the Chapel at Brethren Village, Neffsville, Pa.

A graveside service will be held at the Linville Creek Brethren Cemetery in Broadway at a later date.

Arrangements are by Heisey Funeral Home, Lititz, Pa.
