Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in the Union Army in Company F, 2d Vermont Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania, Virginia. His citation reads "Standing upon the top of the breastwords, deliberately took aim and fired no less than 15 shots into the enemy's lines, but a few yards away."
