"Mrs. Mattie Dir Funeral in Walnut
Services for Mrs. Mattie M. Dir, of Deer Grove, were held from the Ross funeral home on Friday, July 1, at 2 o'clock, with Rev. E. V. Hallock, pastor of the Walnut Christian church, officiating. The vocalists were Mrs. Everett Larson and Mrs. William Bollman, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. John Foss, Jr. Burial was in the Walnut cemetery. Casket attendants were Fred Heeren, Harry Grimm, Charles Jacobs, Kenneth Henley, Gene Trobaugh and Wm. McBride.
Mrs. Dir, 77, passed away June 29, at 7 a.m. at her home in Deer Grove, following a stroke suffered three weeks ago.
Mattie M. Dir was born May 19, 1872, in Hahnaman township, where her entire life was spent. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Dir, and one son, George.
Surviving are two sons, Howard of Rock Falls and Lauren of Deer Grove; two daughters, Mrs. Florence Saathoff and Mrs. LeVern Strouss, both of Deer Grove; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren."
