After the First World War ended Isaac Samuel (or William) Ellis ended his career in the army and returned to his parents home on a farm outside of Sedalia, Missouri. He had served in the wilderness of Alaska for most of his army years. He was 33 years old when he arrived home there was a young 13-14 year old girl working in the kitchen of my grandparents. It seems that she needed a home and my grandparents hired her to help them and provided for her. Ike who had perhaps been too long in the wilds of Alaska, fell in love with this child and married her. She was 14 and he was 33. Ike and Lala Lee were married February 3, 1916 at Sedalia, Pettis county, Missouri.

For a time they lived in Kansas City and worked for Nabisco. They must have returned to farming, for six years later after the marriage, Juanita was born on a farm in Missouri, the first of three children. Genelle came 1 and 1/2 years later and Bill came 1 1/2 years after her. When Bill was 9 months old my mother left feeling burdened with three small children. Eventually Ike divorced her and he never married.

Juanita was eight and Genelle was three when they went to live with their Uncle Monroe "Roe" Ellis and his wife Helen (Nash) Ellis in Kansas City, Missouri. A cousin of Ike's a childless widow, Mary Clara Lively Ellis McMullin took Bill at the age of nine months and raised him as her son.

Isaac Ellis' WWI Draft Registration card is on-line through Ancestry. He gave his name as Isaac Ellis, with no middle name given. It stated his birthdate was Nov. 16, 1882 and his address at the time was RFD 1, Hughesville, Pettis county, Missouri. He was 35 at the time of registration and he was a farmer working for Thomas J. Raines. He gave his nearest relative as his wife of RFD !, Hughesville, Missouri. He signed his registration Sept. 12, 1918. He stated he was tall and slender, brown eyes and dark hair.

Ike worked for a time in the lumbering camps of Washington but returned to Missouri after a time. Later in life he lived for a time with his brother Roy Ellis before his death.

Ike is buried in Hopewell Cemetery, in the open space immediately next to his father William Silas Ellis. Ike originally had no tombstone. His son Billy (Isaac jr.) planned to have a tombstone made and put in place during the Spring of 2000. Bill died in 2006 and it is unknown if he placed a stone prior to his death.
