On October 21, 2011, Deaconess Leoria Ingram Johnson was called to eternal rest at the Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, Virginia.

She was born on July 23, 1916 in Nottoway County, Virginia. She was the ninth child born to Dealia Ann Fitzgerald and Walter Ingram.

Leoria accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at Mount Gazerine Baptist Church, Blackstone, Virginia. She later moved to Richmond, Virginia where she became a faithful member of First Union Baptist Church. She met and married Deacon David Elliott. She became a member of the Deaconess Board in 1952 and member of the Flower Club. Leoria was also a member of Henrico Chapter No. 78 Order of Eastern Star of Richmond, Virginia.

She retired as a licensed practical nurse at age 76. She loved her work and the families that employed her. Mrs. Isabel Fitzgerald and the Sloan family were one of her favorite families. She was dedicated to them and they were to her for years and throughout her illness.

In 1960, Leoria married Deacon Clarence Johnson. She cared for him until his passing in 1972.

She will always be remembered for her loving ways, always giving and sharing what she had with others, especially her family. Her family will never forget her laughter and her wonderful meals.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Louis, Addie, Lesley, Samuel, Charlie, Sadie, Jethro, Mattie and Anna.

She leaves to cherish her memories a loving sister-in-law, Grace Ingram; her nephews, Roosevelt Rhodes (Mary), Melvin Rhodes (Janice) and Harvey Lee Ingram; her nieces, Frankie Ingram, Delia Washington (George), Mattie Anderson (Maurice), Thelma Ingram Staten, Sandra Ingram Lipscomb and Brenda Dandridge (Richard). There are many great nephews and nieces, great-great nephews and nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Barbara Watkins has been a loving and faithful companion during her illness along with Mrs. Sally Coles, Patricia Taylor, and a special friend that called her little sister, Mrs. Lucille Gash.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, October 24, 2011, at 1pm, at Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church, Blackstone, VA, with interment in the church cemetery.

W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone was in charge of arrangements.
