The inscriptions from the stones marking the graves of this man and his wife are as follows: "In memory of Philip Rahn born December 15, 1757, Died March 6, 1837. Aged 79 years, 4 mos. 21 days." In memory of Catherine Rahn was born March 17the, 1769. Died January 19th, 1839. Aged 69 years 10 months 2 days" The Pennsylvania Archives has Philip Rahn pensioned by the state of Pennsylvania on March 3, 1835. In applying for this pension Philip Rahn stated that he was a private in the Pennsylvania militia during the War of the Revolution. The other data referred to was found among the "McConaughty Papers" and, in so far as we know the original document from which these notes were taken has since disappeared. When he applied for his pension Philip Rahn presented all the necessary evidence to David McConaughty, and this with several other similar claims were found among the latter's papers at the time of his death. In the latter mentioned document Philip Rahn states that he was a private in the Pennsylvania militia during the War of the Revolution. The first was his application for a pension which was found among the papers of the late David McConaughty, and the second was statement from the Pennsylvania Archives that a pension had been granted him. Now we quote a final verification taken from the Pennsylvania Archives - Fifth Series - Volume 23 - page 520. Apparently the muster rolls on while Philip Rahn's name appeared were lost or else were never turned in because all reference made to him officially refers only to his pension. The statement from the Archives follows: "Application made from Adams County, Pennsylvania, and the applicant, Philip Rahn was placed on the pension Roll March 3, 1833 at the age of 77 years. Philip Rahn's Revolutionary War Pension claim, S-4750, is as follows: "Philip Rahn, while residing in Reading, Pennsylvania served, in 1776, six months in the Flying Camp, in Captain George May's Company, Colonel Holler's Regiment. He enlisted again in 1777 and served two months in Captain Charles Crouse's Company, Colonel Hunters's Pennsylvania Regiment. Was in the Battle of Brandywine. In 1778 or 1779 served two tours of two months each in Captain Charles Crouse's Company. He was allowed pension on his application executed August 27, 1832 at which time he was living at Conewago township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, age 75 years. He died in march 1838 and his widow Catherine died in 1840 in Adams County, Pennsylvania."

Philip Rahn Sr. b 15 Dec. 1757 and Catharine were married about Mar. 1784 they had thirteen children, Susanna b 1785, Philip Jr. b 1786, Sarah b 1789, Adam b 1791, Elizabeth b 1793, Catherine b 1796, Anna Maria (Mary) b 1798, Magdalene b 1801, Rebecca b 1803, Rachel b 1806, Johannes (John) b 1808, Isaac b 1811, and William b 1812. Philip moved to Adams Co., PA between 1793-1798. This is based on the fact that Susanna, Philip, Sarah, Adam and Elizabeth all have records stating they were born in East Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., PA but their baptisms took place in Christ Church, Littlestown, PA which is in Adams Co., PA. A petition was filed by his daughter Anna Maria for monies from his war pension after his death.

A series of articles in the Gettysburg Times in 1940s gives details on Family. BACKGROUNDS OF ADAMS COUNTY BY B.F. MACPHERSON THE GETTYSBURG TIMES 1 MARCH 1941 NO. 180.. PHILIP RAHN, SOLDIER OF THE REVOLUTION "Last week, due to a typographical error, the number and title on the column was the same as those used the week before (February 15, 1941). The number for last week (February 22, 1941) should have been "NO. 179." and the title "Esther Rittenhouse Barton." We make this correction in order that our readers may not become confused. Today we continue a sketch starting several weeks ago., namely the one pertaining to Philip Rahn, soldier of the Revolution, whose grave is to be found in Christ Reformed churchyard near Littlestown, Adams county, Pennsylvania. The inscriptions from the stones marking the graves of this man and his wife are as follows: "In memory of Philip Rahn born December 15, 1757, Died March 6, 1837. Aged 79 years, 4 mos. 21 days." In memory of Catherine Rahn was born March 17the, 1769. Died January 19th, 1839. Aged 69 years 10 months 2 days" The Pennsylvania Archives has Philip Rahn pensioned by the state of Pennsylvania on March 3, 1835. In applying for this pension Philip Rahn stated that he was a private in the Pennsylvania militia during the War of the Revolution. The other data referred to was found among the "McConaughty Papers" and, in so far as we know the original document from which these notes were taken has since disappeared. When he applied for his pension Philip Rahn presented all the necessary evidence to David McConaughty, and this with several other similar claims were found among the latter's papers at the time of his death. In the latter mentioned document Philip Rahn states that he was a private in the Pennsylvania militia during the War of the Revolution. With the assistance of the records of Christ Reformed church we have been able to obtain some rater interesting data pertaining to the family of this soldier. The baptismal records list the following children born to Philip and Catherine Rahn:

3. Sarah Rahn -born November 21, 1789 - baptized January 10, 1799.

5. Catherine Rahn - born February 17, 1796 - died March 10, 1796.
7. Anna Maria (Mary) Rahn - born July 2, 1798 - baptized August 7, 1798.
8. Magdalena Rahn - born January 6, 1801- - baptized February 9, 1801.
9. Rebecca Rahn - born October 28, 1803 - baptized November 3, 1803.
10. Rachel Rahn - born April 1, 1806 - baptized May 11, 1806 11. Johannes Rahn - born July 14, 1808 - baptized October 2, 1808.

According to our information this couple were the parents of thirteen children as follows:
1. Susanna Rahn, born September 25, 1785, baptized October 23, 1785, married to Peter Brinesdoerfer.
2. Philip Rahn Jr. born October 20, 1786, baptized on Ascension Day of the same year, married to Frances (Fanny) Weikert.
3. Adam Rahn, born September 19,1791, baptized March 14, 1792, married first to Magdalena ----?, married the second time, after the death of his first wife, to Hannah ---?
5. Elizabeth Rahn, born November 6, 1793, baptized December 17, 1793, married to John Rudisill.
6. Catherine Rahn, born February 17, 1796, baptized March 10, 1796, married to Lewis Study (Sturdy).
7. Anna Maria Rahn, born July 2, 1798, confirmed 1813, married on March 23, 1820, to Adam Walter, Jr., the son of Adam Walter, Sr. Anna Maria (Rahn) Walter died in 1879 at Mount Holly Springs PA, and is buried in our own Evergreen cemetery.
8. Magdalene Rahn, born January 6, 1801, baptized February 9, 1801, married to Abraham Hull.
9. Rebecca Rahn, born October 28, 1803, baptized November 3, 1803, married to Jacob Keller.
10. Rachel Rahn, born April 1, 1806, baptized May 11, 1906, married to ----?, ----?.
11. John Rahn, born July 14, 1808 (some authorities give the year of birth as 1807), baptized October 2, 1808, married to ?
12. Isaac Rahn, born April 11, 1811, baptized May 12, 1811, married to ?.

THE GETTYSBURG TIMES 15 MARCH 1941 BACKGROUNDS OF ADAMS COUNTY BY B.F. MACPHERSON no. 182 "..In concluding our notes on soldier of the Revolution Philip Rahn, sr., and his family we wish to remind you that we have already given two proofs of his service as a soldier of the war for independence. The first was his application for a pension which was found among the papers of the late David McConaughty, and the second was statement from the Pennsylvania Archives that a pension had been granted him. Now we quote a final verification taken from the Pennsylvania Archives - Fifth Series - Volume 23 - page 520. Apparently the muster rolls on while Philip Rahn's name appeared were lost or else were never turned in because all reference made to him officially refers only to his pension. The statement from the Archives follows: "Application made from Adams County, Pennsylvania, and the applicant, Philip Rahn was placed on the pension Roll March 3, 1833 at the age of 77 years.
