John was born in 1864 at Des Moines, Ia, Later moving to Missouri with his parents and then to the rapid city area in 1884 (1885) when he was 16, settling at Pedro later. John married Anne Jones in 1891. She is a sister of Mrs Joe Kammerer. Anne was born in 1872. In 1894 Clarence was born. Anne died in 1895 and is buried at Elk Vale Cemetary in Meade County. John then married Martha Rosencranz in 1900. Martha was born in Germany and came to Rapid City as a baby. John and Martha's children were: Annie 1901, Frank1903, Cora 1905, Maude1907, Lawrence 1909, John Leroy1912, and Florence 1917. John moved his family to Pedro, and in 1910 a school named after the Bennett's was built. Clarence, Annie, Frank, and Cora all attended it, After several years of drought, John moved his family to Canada in November 1912. John Leroy (Jack) was only six weeks old when they moved. Florence was born in Carstairs, Canada. In 1923 John Bennett's lost their oldest son Frank 22 years old, their second daughter, Cora McNees 18 years old and her daughter Dorothy McNees, all within three weeks of each other due to flu complications. John died in 1950 and Martha in 1958. Both are buried in Carstairs.
