florence Georgia Shade, one of eleven children was born to Conrad and Theresa Schade near Kensington, Kansas on April 10, 1874. She moved with her parents to a farm near Glenwood, Iowa in 1883 where she grew to womanhood. She united with the Methodist Church in Hillsdale, Iowa on her eighteenth birthday.
she was married to C. C. Baker at her home near Glenwood, March 11, 1896 and they farmed near Randolph, Iowa until 1899 when they moved to a farm near Guss. In 1910 they moved to their farm two miles north of Villisca, which was their home until they moved to Villisca in 1942. Her husband preceded her in death on March 18, 1947.
