3.Barbara Ann McVeigh

Anna was the owner of several business's in the city of Detroit. She ran a sweet shop on the corner of 25th & Porter for many years. She was a second mother to many of the kids she came to know. We hardly ever sat down to eat that there weren't several boys waiting with their plates in hand to be fed, I never knew of her turning anyone away.

In her young years she worked at the Book Cadillac as a waitress, and would often talk about all the movie stars she met, saying Tony Curtis was the most beautiful man she ever laid eyes on, and Carmen Miranda was the Sweetest.

MaMa was a avid reader of all kinds of books. Loved Steven King and I believe she had all of his books, and read them all a couple of times. She loved history ,mostly American but fascinated by the world . She would tell me how she would loved to travel the world and seen all the places she read about. It was not to be for her adult life started much to early.

MaMa attended Ste. Anne's Catholic school in Detroit, and said she loved it. She had many friends and told lots of stories of her friend Annie. One story went like this, they both were chewing gum in class (which was a no-no)making faces at each other and MaMa had the idea that it would be funny to stick her gum on the end of her nose and cross her eyes to top Annie's last face. I got the biggest kick when she told me that the sister turned around just as she did her little stunt , well the sister called her up to the front of the class and had MaMa put the gum back on the end of her nose and stand in front of the class all day, needless to say she never play those games again

Her favorite pass time was going to Sally's and buying all kinds of things ,that she would give to her children, and anyone that was in need. I am so proud she was my Mom and miss her to my very soul everyday

Mama was Irish & Italian and all it took was a look to settle us down when we all got wild.
