Raymond Edward Broske was born May 14, 1945 in Farmington, MN, son of Lewis and Gladys (Nephew) Broske. When he was 2 his family moved to a farm by Fertile, MN. Ray was baptized and confirmed at the Maple Lake Lutheran Church and attended school in Fertile. Following the death of his father, Ray stayed at home and helped on the farm. In the early 1960's they moved back to Farmington and he began working at the Donald Hahn farm.
In 1963, he joined the Marines during the Vietnam War. After his discharge in 1967, he began working at a plastics and fiberglass plant in Farmington. On January 31, 1969 he was united in marriage to Lillian Ann Volkert at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Northfield and they made their home in Farmington. In 1974, they moved to Waterford where Ray went back to farming. He began as a partner with his father-in-law, Clarence Volkert. In 1977 Ray and his family moved to their current farm on Highway 19, east of Northfield, where he farmed until 2000. Not ready to retire, Ray also worked for Dick and Kevin Green on their large farm operation, and later mowed sod for Pete Jirik on his sod farm.
Ray enjoyed driving tractors, playing cards, watching westerns on TV, and giving his golden retriever, "Buddy", rides on the golf cart around the farm. Visiting with friends was a favorite pastime and the coffee pot was always on. But he especially loved his family and the times when they were together.
Ray Broske is survived by his wife Lillian of Northfield; sons Bob (Jennifer) Broske of Lonsdale, Ed Broske of Northfield; daughter Tammy Broske of Northfield; brother Robert (Pauline) Broske of Northfield; sisters Louise (Walter) Michaels and Barbara Sharp all of Farmington; 3 grandchildren; father-in-law Clarence Volkert of Northfield and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.
