Husband of Rachel [White] Mickel who died about a year before James. Their stones are no longer there but they are buried at Bethel Cemetery just out of Pleasant Plains.

They married at Cape May County, New Jersey, February 14, 1813, and James Mickel was a blacksmith by trade. James and Rachel moved their family to Illinois, with the exception of their son Joseph. His son John Mickel had moved to Illinois three years previously.
