Death of Mrs. Bettie Meriwether
Mrs. Bettie Meriwether, one of the best loved women in Shelby County, died Monday morning at three o'clock at Allendale, her country home, south of this city. The end was due to infirmities of age, she having been an invalid for several years.
Mrs. Meriwether was born August 10, 1839, on the farm where she died. She was a daughter of the late Col. John P. Allen, and the widow of Thornton Meriwether, at one time a large land owner of this county. After her husband's death Mrs. Meriwether took up the management of Allendale Farms and soon established a wide reputation for fine Jersey cattle.
Mrs. Meriwether is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Sue Thornton Henning.
The funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church yesterday morning at 10 o'clock by the Rev. W.R. Anderson. The interment was in Grove Hill cemetery

Mrs. Bettie Meriwether died at 3 o'clock Monday morning at her country home, Allendale, three miles south of this city. For a number of years she had been in ill health that was due to infirmities of her greatly advanced age. Her death occurred at the same farm where on August 10, 1839, she was born. She was a woman who was greatly beloved by all the community. She was the daughter of the late Col. John P. Allen and the widow of Thornton Meriwether, at one time one of the largest land owners in this county. Mrs. Meriwether is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Sue Thornton Henning. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.R. Anderson at the Presbyterian church at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. The burial took place in Grove Hill cemetery.
