Son of Edmond and Zola (Nicholson) Pearson. He married Rosie Lee Drummond and they shared over 60 years of marriage until her death on Feb. 5, 2008.

James is survived by two sons, Earl J. Pearson and William J. (Sharron) Pearson; one adopted daughter, Michelle (the Rev. Wess) Pollard III; a host of grand and great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

James was an Army World War II veteran.

After serving in the military he worked as a butcher for Armour Packing Company. He later retired from Caterpillar Inc. after many years of service as a parts inventory clerk.
