Hannah Southmaid (also spelled Southmayd) was born 10-22- 1818 in New York to Daniel and Tryphena Southmaid.
Daniel was born in New York and Tryphena was born in Germany.

At age 24 she married William (also known as Willman) Halsey. She had 10 children. Several born in Delta Township, Michigan and the remainder in Ingham Township. Research is still being done on the unknown child.

~Given names not known at this time. It is believed these were the Halsey children that died between 1862-1863 in the area Diphtheria deaths.

*At this time little is known about Zidera. She was married to David Benton Lane with at least one son. It appears she was a second wife as he was much older than her. She died April 1888 in the Leslie area and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Leslie, Michigan

** Daniel did live to adulthood. His time and place of death is unknown. All that has been found about Daniel is an article where he borrowed Paul's horse and buggy to go to Mason to see a doctor. He did not return and sold it in Eaton Rapids. Paul paid to get the horse and buggy back instead of placing charges against Daniel. Nothing more has been found at this time.

August 24, 1898 Paul took his life while in the Mason Jail. After attaching Hannah with a pitchfork in an insane rage.

Hannah died March 10, 1902 age 84 years, 8 months, 12 days.

She is buried on the Halsey plot in Howard Cemetery. All graves are unmarked except for 2 metal hoops that mark the graves of 4 children that died many years before. Paul is there and her sister Sarah, who passed July 5, 1897. William is there also. At this time a death certificate or obituary have not been found for William.
