Lewis was born in Wenatchee, Washington of a pioneering farming family.
After working as a teacher and a rancher, he became a machinist and remained in that occupation for over 40 years. Lewis married Juliet Whitaker in 1938, a marriage of 60 years that shall last into eternity.
Juliet preceded Lewis in death in 1998.
Lewis is survived by his sons, John Balch and his wife, Beth, William Balch and his wife, Kathleen, Thomas Balch and his wife, Julie, Russell Balch and Richard Balch, daughters, Mary Louise Smith and her husband, Alan and Ann Balch, nine grandchildren and other family and friends.
Memorial Services will be held at Albuquerque Bible Church, 320 Montaño NW on Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Lewis will bre remembered as a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all.
