The Peters family left Sussex County and are found in 1870 living in Brick Township, N. J., which would later be known as Lakewood, N. J. The Lakewood Times & Journal gives notice that John B. Peters of Lakewood wed Carrie A. Smith in Philadelphia on May 31, 1883 by the Rev. E. Thompson.
John B. Peters was primarily a cement, stone and gravel contractor. He is also known to have hauled such items as flour, grain, hay, feed and even ice cream. Upon the Township of Lakewood becoming officially incorporated in 1893 John B. Peters would become their very first Township Clerk.
John & Carrie would continue to live in Lakewood where they raised their four children. John's death occurred on Feb 20, 1923 and he is buried in Evergreen Cemetery or "Stoney Hill" as the locals call it.
