He was born June 8, 1912, in Brooklyn, NY, and spent most his youth on a farm in Middlebush, NJ, where he attended a two-room schoolhouse. After high school in New Brunswick, NJ, he graduated from Rutgers University and received his MD degree from New York Medical College. He was among the first doctors to enlist in World War II, serving a year in Camp Clayburn, LA, followed by four years in the South Pacific arena with a MASH unit. After the war, he established a private practice in New Brunswick. Dr. Rubin was a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Rubin was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed tennis, horseback riding, and skiing. In 1958, he and his wife, Lois, purchased an historic farm in Rock Hill, NY, where he worked the land and raised animals.
