Rev. William Haney apparently was the clergyman who officiated at the marriage of Mrs. Emma (Hale, Smith) Bidamon, formerly the first (of 33 total) wife of the Prophet Joseph Smith on the 23d of December, 1847 in Nauvoo IL. Several Mormon citations and other sources refer to this marriage and indicate that Rev. William Haney, a Methodist minister, was the brother of Rev. Richard Haney, which ties William to this particular branch of the Haney family. Emma was remarried after Joseph Smith's death. She had apparently been a Methodist (as was her new husband) before her marriage to Joseph Smith.
Living in Knox County, town of Abingdon, Illinois, with with wife Seralda on the US Census for 1880. This is likely where he died, as some sources indicate. He shows he is born in PA, both parents born IRL and is age 70 in 1880. Occupation is Methodist Episcopal minister."
...Mentioned as a minister and brother to Rev. Milton L. Haney in his book, "Pentecostal Possibilities" which can be Googled by name/author. The book is a wonderful reference source for the Haney family in general, telling of the early family members, as well as relating every day life and hysterical preaching stories by William Haney and his three preacher brothers John, Milton, and Richard. All early and very historic Methodist circuit-riding preachers in PA, OH, IL and IA history.
