Guy was the only child born to James W. Evans and Lou Ama Harrison Evans. They were both older and each had been married twice before but Guy enjoyed the company of his step-siblings for a few years. In 1900, Guy's father was still farming but by 1910 worked only as a laborer at odd jobs that appealed to him at Killeen, Texas. In 1918, Guy was a salesman for J. B. Swope and in 1920 was supporting his widowed mother by working as a clerk at a grocery store at Killeen. Guy married to Sadie Duncan on 6 September 1921 at Bell County, Texas and their only child, Guy Willis Evans, Jr., was born in 1923. They made their home at Brownwood, Texas in 1928, where Guy worked as a clerk at Central Drug Store. Back in Killeen in 1930, he worked as a clerk at a garage. From the late 1930s to the mid-1940s, the family lived at Abilene, Texas where he worked first as a clerk at Thornton's Department Store and later as the operator of Parsie's Beauty Shop.
