ACUFF, RONALD EDWIN, SR. - 77 of 8610 Pickens Gap Rd., Knoxville, departed this life Nov. 13, 2011 at Park West Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He professed faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 13 and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, John Sevier Highway. He graduated Washburn High School and attended Carson-Newman College. His first job other than working on the family farm, was as a school teacher at Washburn and at Buffalo. He retired from Firestone Corporation and thereafter worked security for the Cochran Family McDonald franchises, and later worked in the Misdemeanor Probation Program for the East Tennessee Human Resource Agency until April of this year. He was one of the "Original Mission of Hopers," an organization that now helps over 17,000 children annually, and served in the Tennessee Air National Guard. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vaughn and Mary Acuff. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Acuff and children by a previous marriage, Ronald Jr., Bruce and Kelly Ann Acuff; step-daughters Julie Holland and Terry Kerley; grandchildren, Amanda Franklin, Roni, Ronald III, Amber and Kara Acuff; step grandchildren, Caroline and Katherine Holland and Amanda and Corban Owen; great grandchildren, Logan, Lauran, Michaela, Catlin, Holder, and Ronald IV; step grandchildren, Calli Hubbard, and Aiden Owen; brothers, Gordon, Philip, and Norman; special friends, Fred and Emily Oakley and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 6:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Smith-Reagan Funeral Home in Rutledge. Graveside services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at Washburn Cemetery with Rev. Stacey Lawson officiating.
