Sarah Ridgeway Abernathy, 86, of 606 Jenkins Bridge Rd, widow of James Harry Abernathy, died Dec. 11, 2001. Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late William David and Leila Henderson Ridgeway, and was the last surviving member of her family.
Mrs. Abernathy was a member of Unity Baptist Church, Fairview Road, Simpsonville, and a retired secretary of Carolina Belting Company. Surviving are nieces, Beth Knupp of Greenville, Mary Jane Henderson of Columbia, and Ann Wactor of Greer; and nephews, Vin Ridgeway of Simpsonville, James Ridgeway and Bill Ridgeway, both of Greenville; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 2pm at Unity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Fred Lyda and the Rev. Howard Wimmer officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Building Fund or Cemetery Fund of Unity Baptist Church, 1000 Fairview Rd, Simpsonville, SC.
