Marie was born in Philadelphia and was the youngest of seven children. Her father, William Coates, was a Civil War veteran having served with the 3rd Regiment of the Pennsylvania Cavalry. Shortly after his death the family moved to Florence where they became an active part of the community.
Marie was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Florence for 68 years. She was also a member of the Pemberton and Moorestown Camera Clubs and was Past-President of the Duffy School PTA.
She was the mother of Charles E. Adams, Elizabeth Thorn and Jean Richman. She was predeceased by another daughter, Alice Eaton.
