Del Norte Prospector dated May 21, 1965
Dr. John McFadzean, 99, pioneer, physician and surgeon in Del Norte died in his sleep at his winter home in Tucson, Arizona Wednesday morning. The body is being brought back here and services will be held on Monday at the Presbyterian church, with interment at the Del Norte cemetery.
Dr. McFadzean was born September 20, 1866 in Ontaria, Canada. He received his medical education at McGill University, Montreal. As a young man he came to Del Norte for his health, and established his practice which was to continue for many years, until his retirement.
The last 35 years he has made his home in Del Norte during the summers and Albuquerque and Tucson, with the last 25 years at the latter two places, on a summer-winter regular schedule.
During his long Del Norte tenure, he was engaged in ranching and sheep, in addition to his profession. He served with distinction and leadership as a state senator several terms, representing the old original valley senatorial district. He was the oldest living master of No. 105 Masons.
He is survived by two daughters, Jean Bond, Albuquerque and Flora Hughes, Cleveland, Ohio, and one son, Neil, Del Norte. His wife Mrs. Rena McFadzean died here in 1941.
