Father Sebastian Drake OFM., was the son of Vincent Drake and Stella Regielski, born on July 12, 1917, in South Bend, Indiana. Originally the family name was Koczorowski. His high school years from 1932 until 1937, were at St. Anthony's Seminary in Santa Barbara. He entered the Franciscan Order in 1939, and professed his solemn vows in 1943. Sebastian was ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 1945, by Bishop Joseph T. McGucken at Mission Santa Barbara. His deceased brother, Victor Drake OFM., was a lay brother.

Apart from counseling and education courses, Father Sebastian had a number of short assignments throughout the western United States. He spent three years in China, studying Chinese and doing some missionary work. Father Sebastian's presence was vital in the Canadian retreat exchange program. His longest ministry was in Stockton, California, where he was a parochial minister, as well as hospital chaplain and jail chaplain.

With his impressive educational background he had also taught high school in Portland, Salem and Oakland. He also was a retreat master serving the Franciscan Renewal Center (Scottsdale, Arizona), St. Francis Retreat (San Juan Bautista, California), and St. Francis Retreat (Cochrane, Alberta, Canada).

Father Sebastian passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, aged 94. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, September 20, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Oakland, California. As per his wishes, Fr. Sebastian was laid to rest at the Old Mission Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, California.
