Gale Junior Scott
WWII Army vet formerly owned Holiday Motel
Gale Junior (Scottie) Scott, 89, of Tempe, Ariz., formerly of Greene County, died at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2007, in Hospice of The Valley Sherman Home, Phoenix, Ariz.
He was born Thursday, November 1, 1917, in Rogersville, a son of Thomas Gail Scott and Bessie Chaplain Scott.
Mr. Scott spent his early years in Greene County before moving to Ligonier for a few years. He had lived in Arizona for the past 38 years.
He was a member of Waynesburg Masonic Lodge 153 F&AM, Lodge Council Consistory Valley of Pittsburgh and El Zaribah Shriners.
Mr. Scott served with the National Guard at Indiantown Gap before going into active duty with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a captain for the 21st Engineer Aviation Regiment and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with four battle stars.
While in Greene County, Mr. Scott owned the Holiday Motel on High Street. He also worked as a calibration engineer at Texas Eastern Gas Co. While in Arizona, he worked as a real estate broker.
He enjoyed boating, but his favorite pastime was playing golf with his family and buddies.
Surviving are a stepson, Barry D. Yoders; a brother, John Scott; a nephew, Richard M. Scott; and two nieces, Johnetta Scott and Tamara M. Scott.
Deceased are his first wife, Elva W. Scott; his second wife, Doris Dean McClelland Scott, who died August 16, 1996; a daughter, Vickie Lynn Scott; and a son, James Edwin Scott.
