A native of Old Fort, NC, son of James Robert Wheelon (1889–1973) and Ella Jane Parker Wheelon (1889–1962); husband of Mildred (Weaver) Wheelon.
A member of Inman First Baptist Church and the Winsome Sunday School Class; a retired carpenter, and a lifetime member of Inman Masonic Lodge #201.
Also survived by sons, David Wheelon and Bruce Wheelon; sisters, Eleanor Elizabeth Wheelon Abernathy (1924–2019), Stella Wheelon Wall (1924–2015), and Florine Wheelon Strange (1930–2011); and two grandchildren.
The family received friends from 1:00-2:00 pm, Thursday, November 9, 2000, at Seawright Funeral Home.
Funeral services followed at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by Dr. Don Bishop and the Rev. Earl Hendrix; encryptment was in Roselawn Mausoleum with full Masonic rites.
