Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Corporal in the 32nd Regiment, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. On June 30, 1857, at Lucknow, India, Corporal Oxenham exposed to heavy enemy fire saved the life of a Bengal Civil Servant by extricating him from the ruins of a verandah which had fallen on him. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
