Final resting place of Mary Brewer Crawford,wife of the famous Dr. Crawford,and her Son James a wealthy shipping tycoon. Son James Crawford(b.Sept13,1766)-d.Feb15,1837) And Lydia Crawford b,1792-d.Sept 1,1837 wife of Josiah Crawford(1769-1850} Josiah is another son of Doctor Crawford. Also Josiah is this writers 4th G.G. Grand Son.In the 1775 Will of Dr. William, Crawford,he ordered that this Tomb be built for him upon his demise. He met with an untimely death at Fort Pownall.At age 49 he accidentally cut his toes off with an ax and the good doctor bled to death before he reached the Fort. He died June 15,1776. Although the Doctors remains are not in the Tomb,the above Son James, 60 years later granted the Doctors wishes, "That A Tomb Be Built" I surmise that more then likely the good Doctor was buried in the small grave yard next to the red brick chapel at Fort Pownall. Fort Pownell was deliberately destroyed in 1776. written by Irving L. Davey
