Loving Tribute to Our Mother Opal Jewel (Holmes) (Cannon) Costello July 11, 1923 ~ November 23, 2011 Our mother was preceded in death by her husband; our father, Herbert Cannon; sons, Jacky and Dennis Cannon; and daughter, Lori Spiller. Opal is survived by many who loved her dearly: her daughters and their husbands, Susan and Bruce Colvett, Deborah Howe, Betty Gates, Barbara and Jack Brady, and Patricia and Roy Layne. Opal had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her precious wonderful sisters and their husbands, Betty and James Brown, and Nettie Siebley and Merle Swan. As her children, our greatest tribute to our mother is that we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that she loved God and walked in forgiveness, His righteousness and salvation. With the help of the Holy Spirit, she taught and led each of us, her children, to accept and make Jesus Christ the Lord of our lives. We will be forever thankful and grateful for her love, guidance, and influence in our lives. Her guidance and prayer support gave us tools of support, to be loving wives to our husbands and nurturing mothers to our children and grandchildren. All of her daughters believe that if our mother could speak to each of us and each of you hearing and reading this tribute and obituary, this is in part what she would speak to each of us personally: Do you know who Jesus is? Do you know Him personally as the Lord and Savior of your life? Should your answer be yes...we know she would rejoice with you and say a happy "Praise the Lord." If not...her words would be, Today, it's not too late! Tomorrow may never come. Please... don't be found without Christ as your Savior. Today you have this precious choice. In closing, we sisters, in agreement, say that our precious mother leaves us with many wonderful memories of her love and many sacrifices for all of her daughters. We're going to miss our mom. We know she loved each of us individually and equally in her own way. With much love, Mom, we look forward to seeing you soon, never to be parted for all eternity. A chapel service will be held today, Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. Visitation was held Monday, November 28, 2011.
