John Eckert (Accord). Enlisted Philadelphia as Private aged 38 into the 71st Pa. Inf. Co. A. Oct.31st 1861 for 3 Yrs.
He was transferred to Co. A of the 69th Pa. Inf. 12th June 1864 and fought Gettysburg with the 71st. Pa. Captured at Reams Station Aug. 25th 1864. Died at Salisbury N.C.Prison Camp Oct. 28th 1864. Buried in the P.O.W. Section of Salisbury Nat. Cemetery Salisbury N.C. No grave allocation. Buried in a trench grave. Note his name spelling varies in some records some have as Accord etc A native of Philadelphia. He was 5ft 10ins tall, dark eyes, dark hair and a metal worker by trade.
There are as now (March 2017) two other known off 69th Pa. soldiers buried in this mass grave. Pvts. Timothy Lynch Co. C and Moore Co. D.

Note;
The grassy area in the two images to the left marks the site of the mass burial trenches where the bodies of Union Soldiers who died in the Confederate Prison in Salisbury are buried. Along the outer perimeter of the area are a series of headstones, two of which can be seen in this photo, each inscribed with the simple words "Unknown U.S." Soldier (Info.Thanks to Kitty FAG member 46610041)
