Man Stricken at His Home
Sebastian Koch, a Macomb policeman for many years, died suddenly, apparently of a heart attack, at his home at 230 West Jackson street about seven o'clock this morning. He was 81 years, 5 months, and 27 days.
His daughter, Mrs. Marie Arnold, who lived with him, found him dead in a chair with a newspaper on his lap. He had had a number of heart attacks but was able to work as usual yesterday and never complained of illness, Coroner Jake Davis reported. He will conduct the inquest at the Dodsworth-Piper funeral home at eight o'clock tonight.
Funeral services will probably be held Saturday morning, depending upon the arrival of a son, George Koch, from South Bend, Ind. Friends may call at the home after seven o'clock this evening.
Mr. Koch, served on the city night police force for twenty years. In his later years he has served as janitor at the St. Paul Catholic Church and school. He took pride in ringing the church bell promptly for many years. He was a member of the Catholic church all of his life. He was also a charter member of the Knights of Columbus lodge and was grand knight for several terms.
He was born in the province of Hohenzollern, Germany, on Dec. 31, 1863 and came to Macomb 65 years ago.
He was married to Margaret Burke in 1892. She predeceased him. To this union were born two children, George of South bend, Ind. and Mrs. Arnold, of this city. He is also survived by two brothers, John Koch of Indianapolis, Ind., and Joseph Koch of Burlington, Ia. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Patricia, Jerry, Robert, Connie of South Bend, Ind., Pvt. Robert Arnold of Jefferson Barracks, Mo., Barbara Jean, Donald, and Dorothy Arnold of this city.
