Born in South Carolina in October 1765, removed to Bedford County, TN 1808 and departed this life 22 February 1832. "At an early age Capt. Shaw engaged in the struggle of the Revolution on the side of Liberty and continued through life to be an upright honest citizen, faithful in the discharge of his duties, setting an example to all around of industrious perseverances and frugality. He was for many years a member of the Baptist Church at New Hope and finally died in the triumph of faith in his blessed redeemer.
