JOHN SEWELL FAMILY
John Sewell was born April 4, 1792 in Moore County, North Carolina. His wife, Charity A. Lancaster was born January 19, 1800 probably in North Carolina. His father, John Sowell was b. July 20, 1766 in Salisbury District, North Carolina and d. October 8, 1825 and his wife, Elizabeth Stanford was b. 1768 in Lascea, Tennessee d. April 20, 1847 in Williamsport, Hall County, Tennessee.
John Sewell married gentle Charity about 1817 in Moore County, North Carolina, where they lived until their 4th baby was born. When news came that land was available in Georgia they packed up the family and moved. They lived in Gainsville, Georgia from 1822 and left there before 1850. They settled down near a plentiful supply of water springs . They named the place "Perennial Springs" located about s even miles from Summerville in Chattooga, Georgia. They had purchased the land from the Cherokee Indians and built a home near these springs. The old double log home had a separate log kitchen. It was a happy place and filled with the laughter of their many children. A deep and abiding respect for God and country were taught along with Bible study, reading and writing. John and Charity Sewell and some of the children are buried in what was known as the Sewell Cemetery, now known as the Perennial Springs Cemetery.
