Witherington Rites Will Be Tomorrow

Dexter - Funeral Services for Robert E. Witherington, 76 of Dexter, Route 1, who died yesterday at his home after an illness of one week, will be held tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with burial in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Rev. George Light and Rev. J. M. Rainey will officiate and Townsend Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born and reared in Laurens County Mr. Witherington had lived near Dexter throughout his life. He was a member, deacon, and Sunday School teacher of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for many years and was very active in the social and civic affairs of his community. He had many friends and relatives in Dexter and Laurens County, He was a farmer.

Surviving are his wife the former Miss Lola McGahee; three sons, George Witherington, Dexter, Route 1, Alvin Witherington, Hawkinsville, and Olan Witherington, Americus; five daughters, Mrs. C. J. Bryan, St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Caren Rack (Mrs. Corinne Rourke) , Charleston, S. C. , Mrs. D. F. Warnock, Tarrytown, Mrs. Delma Holt, Adrian, and Mrs. Llewellyn Weaver, Dublin; seven brothers, J. M. Witherington, Cordele, J. W. Witherington, Chester, F. R. Witherington, Dexter, Route 1, T. J. Witherington, Dexter, Route 1, Julian Witherington, Dublin, G. A. Witherington, Chester, E. M. Witherington, Decatur; two sisters, Mrs. J.D. McClelland, Dexter, and Mr. M. E. Cardell, Charleston, S. C. ; 16 grandchildren; two great grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be C. B. Payne, D. J. Bryant, Johnnie Frost, Eugene Pennington, Tom Butler, and Sidney Whittle. Honorary pallbearer: Sam Pennington, Jack Bryant, Jack Bush, Dr. W. F. Massey, Lonnie Evans, Durrill Knight, Wilbur Jones, A. W. Dominey, Sr. , Math Parkerson, A. J. Wearver and C. M. Patisaul.
