James Preble, who died recently in Togus, was a highly respected resident of Whitefield, where he had resided for many years. He was 79 years of age and a veteran of the Civil War. Previous to the war he followed the sea. His grandfather was a soldier of the Revolutionary War and his father a soldier in the War of 1812. [Contributor: Whitefield Historical Society #47663682]
