How do you summarize the life of our angel Mom, Mary Cameron Martindale, in one column?
Mary died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 29, 2006, after an extended struggle with Alzheimers disease. We will miss her quick smile, her cheery disposition, and her endless desire to be of service to others. Grandkids will miss her white chocolate cookies, her wonderful spoiling, and the beautiful, appliqued, hand-quilted baby quilts for each new addition. We will also miss the sweet visits to Grandma M-s house. One granddaughter said she was convinced that Grandmas home would be her heaven.
Mary was born on December 6, 1925 in Panguitch, Utah to Benjamin Archie and Leonia Cameron. Mary moved to Springville with her family in 1937 where she attended school and graduated from Springville High School with honors.
Mary married the love of her life,Ted J. Martindale, on March 27, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Ted preceded her in death in August, 1989.
Her life was one of service as she served both in the church and community. She held positions in almost every organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including Relief Society President in her ward and stake. She also served in a stake Relief Society presidency for one of the BYU stakes. After Teds death, she served as a temple worker in the Provo Temple and especially loved this wonderful opportunity.
She also worked in the PTA organization, the Springville City Planning Commission, the Utah County Legislative Council, the Advisory Board of the Timpanogos Mental Health Council, the Art Board, and as an active member of the Companions Federated Club.
Mary is survived by two children: Lori (Ken) Tuttle, Holden, Utah; David (Judy) Martindale, Lindon, Utah. Thirty children called her Grandma or Grandma Great, and they were the pride of her life. She is also survived by one brother, Elliot (Maxine) Cameron, Provo, Utah; one foster sister, Alice Henrie, Panguitch, Utah; and two sisters-in-law Oretta Woods, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Mary Jane Partridge, Roosevelt, Utah.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the kind hands that have helped take care of Mary for the past several years. We express particular thanks to Reids Park Place in Springville, and Pleasant Acres in Delta.
A viewing will be held at the Wheeler Mortuary 211 East 200 South, Springville, Utah on Wednesday, February 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. An additional viewing will be held Thursday morning, February 2, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Hobble Creek 9th Ward Chapel at 450 S. Canyon Drive, Springville, prior to the funeral at 11 a.m.
We imagine that Mom and Dad are in a boat somewhere fishing to their hearts content (and Mom is catching all the fish again!)
