Welsh -Nute Joseph Vanicor, 91, passed away December 5, 2011 in his residence.
He retired as custodian for Welsh Elementary school where he was well respected and loved by his co-workers, staff and students. He had a lifelong passion for gardening and enjoyed sharing vegetables with family and friends. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Euna LeJeune Vanicor of Welsh; son, Pat Vanicor and wife Renee of Welsh; daughters, Darlene Stanley and husband Alvin of Roanoke and Henrietta Gratton and husband Kenneth of Jennings; brothers, Milton Vanicor of Welsh and Ellis Vanicor of Lacassine; sister, Cecile Leger of Church Point, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Darrel Vanicor; brothers, Clarence, Ivy and Preston Vanicor and sister, Rena LeJeune.
His funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. Rev. Roland Vaughn will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. and a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh.
