Joann Kirk passed away on Sept. 3, 2007, at University of Utah Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Joann was born on Dec. 1, 1930, in Salt Lake City, to Leonard and Thelma (Anderson) Charles. She was raised and attended schools in Panguich, Utah, and Albuquerque, N.M. Joann moved to Tooele in 1948 where she met the love of her life, Jay Kirk. They were married on Oct. 21, 1948. Jay and Joann were blessed with four wonderful children, Leonard Rex, James L., Debbie Rae and Darin J.

Joann was a very elegant woman. She was an excellent cook and a fabulous hostess as she entertained her family and friends alike. She had a delightful sense of humor that was appreciated by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Joann loved to travel and she and Jay traveled extensively. Also, she loved playing bridge with her friends and watching sports on TV, especially the Jazz. Jay and Joann operated Coldwell Banker Real Estate in Tooele for 18 years.

Joann is survived by her husband, Jay Kirk; children, Leonard (Denise), James, Debbie Millward (Jim) and Darin; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, William Charles and Russell Charles and sister, Barbara Bowers.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main St., Tooele. Funeral services will be held at the LDS Church on 777 E. Skyline Drive, Tooele, on Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at 1 p.m., preceded by a viewing from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at Tooele City Cemetery. Joann and her family wish to thank the numerous friends, nurses and doctors who provided kind support and care during her illness.
