OBIT:

Knocked down by a street car at 21st Street and Pacific Avenue at 6:15 Monday morning, J. S. Morefield, 48, 2015 South Tyler Avenue, was taken unconscious to the Tacoma General Hospital where he died shortly afterward.

Morefield, a car repairman for the Northern Pacific Railroad, was presumably on his way to work. According to early reports received by the street railway company, the man alighted from one car and failed to notice another car approaching on the other track.

Immediately after his death at the hospital, the body was taken to C. C. Mellinger's Undertaking establishment and Coroner Shaver was called. Police detectives were investigating the case during the morning.

The dead man is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; five sons, G. H. and Samuel M. of Tacoma, Roy of Tennessee, W. R. of Ellensburg, and R. of Orting; and five daughters, Alice, Margaret, Carrie, ad Eva of Tacoma, and Mrs. Catherine Spears of Ellensburg. He is a native of North Carolina.
