Harriet Newell was the daughter of George W Newell and Abigail March. She married Joseph Smith Jr on 17 December 1839 in Ipswich. She and Joseph had five children: Abby, Albert, Harriet, Drucilla, and George. At one time (1870) she ran a boarding house. After her husband died, she lived with her daughter Druscilla (Mrs. Isaac Edward Perkins). Harriet's cause of death was dysentery.
