Amon was a son of Eli Cooper and Mary Elizabeth "Polly" Gross. He married "Eliza" Elizabeth Louisa Jane Hatmaker on 24 February 1881 in Campbell County, Tennessee. (There is some confusion about Eli possibly being married to another woman named Elizabeth Shepherd. Or was the Elizabeth
just another one of Polly's names, since census records often used different first names, middle names, nick names to list the same individual over the years. If there was a second wife named Elizabeth Shepherd, she may have been Amon's mother.....)
Amon was a son of Eli Cooper and Mary Elizabeth "Polly" Gross. He married "Eliza" Elizabeth Louisa Jane Hatmaker on 24 February 1881 in Campbell County, Tennessee.

They had 8 known children: Nancy Jane, Martha Ann, Mary Etta, Manda C, Cora F, Maggie M, James Cylus and Essie.

Amon was at work in a coal mine in La Follette on the day of 10 January 1913, with his son James Cylus working nearby. A portion of the mine ceiling collapsed, killing Amon. James was wounded but survived.

Amon's daughter, Martha Ann Cooper married Samuel Thomas Sharp. Sam and Martha are the parents of my father, Edward Earl Sharp, Sr.

Amon Cooper's grave is located on a plot of land in Campbell County, TN. It is near the site where his family log cabin once stood. The land was owned at the time by Amon's father, Eli. The cabin was built prior to the start of the Civil War.
It is believed that Amon was born at this location, in the cabin. Amon lived in the cabin as an adult and many, if not all, of his children were born in the cabin.

The cabin was built on a level site near a natural spring on the property. This was the source of water for the family.

The small family cemetery site where Amon's final resting place is located, is at the top of a steep hill on the property, behind the cabin site.
