During the winters he worked in the bush country of Northern Ontario in the Fort Francis area. Then for four years worked at oping-pit mining {drilling through ice} at Atikoken in Northern Ontario.
In 1951 he worked in the bush at Prince George and Willow River area of British Columbia until 1952.
In 1952 he started long shoring at Vancouver, British Columbia and remained in that occupation.
