The second son of Samuel Atlee (who was from Brentford)was the first of the name to arrive in America. He left England in March 1733.
He married Jane Alcock, daughter of an English Clergyman and the cousin of William Pitt, the old Earl of Chatham. It was said that she was the maid of honor to the Queen. The King and Queen wanted her to marry into the royal family but Jane decided to ran away with Atlee to America. William and Jane were married June 1, 1734 at Bridgeton in the parish of St. Michael, Barbadoes.
A few days after their marriage they took off for America and arrived in Philadelphia within 3 weeks.
They lived in Philadelphia for sometime before moving to Trenton, New Jersey.
William died in Philadelphia, PA at Caleb Ranstead's house he was buried April 27, 1744 in the yard of St.Peter's Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Jane Atlee died January 18, 1777 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
